SUBJECT: MANUALLY ADJUSTING FLANGE FOCAL LENGTH FOR SCL-Z18X140 ZOOM LENS
DESCRIPTION
This bulletin describes how to manually adjust flange focal length for the SCL-Z18X140 powered zoom lens when using camcorder software V1.12.
NOTE: Automatic adjustment is not supported with V1.12.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
1. Position an object with clear contrast (such as a flange focal length adjustment chart) approximately three meters away from the front of the camcorder.
2. Set the zoom lens as follows:

3. Adjust the iris to the open position.
4. Press and hold the F.f button (flange focal length adjustment button) and the SteadyShot button (image stabilizer button) simultaneously.
NOTE: This operation establishes flange focal length adjustment mode. The flange focal length adjustment lamp starts to blink.
5. Zoom automatically switches to TELE. Adjust focus with the focus ring, then press the F.f button.
6. Zoom automatically switches to WIDE. Adjust focus with the focus ring, then press the F.f button.
This operation terminates flange focal length adjustment mode. The flange focal length adjustment lamp turns off, and the adjustment is complete.
COUNTERMEASURE FOR INSUFFICIENT ADJUSTMENT
If the flange focal length adjustment screw on the camcorder is located near the edge, the adjustment above may not be sufficient, and focus shifts when zoom position is moved.
In this case, perform the following steps, then perform the adjustment procedure again.
1. Prepare a single focus lens (SCL-P20T20, SCL-P25T20, or equivalent) with a focal length of approximately 20 or 25mm. (A wider angle than 50 mm is recommended.)
2. Position an object with clear contrast (such as a flange focal length adjustment chart) approximately 60 or 100 times the focal length away.
3. Measure the distance between the image location mark of the camcorder and the object.
4. Adjust the lens focus index to the measured distance.
5. Adjust the iris to the open position.
6. Adjust optimal focus using the flange focal length adjustment screw and viewing camcorder output.
