Sony Camcorder most requested repairs

No power could be caused by a loose cable defective component, short, internal or external batteries. Repairing boards is one of our specialities guranteed to save you money.

Before you send PMW-EX1 camera with no power to us for servicing, use the battery charger as AC source to eliminate the battery or battery compartments as part of the issue. If the camera turns on it might not be charging the battery. Try another battery.

If there still is no power, check the internal battery on the bottom of the camcorder next to the mounting hole that threads to hold the tripod plate.

PMW-EX1, EX1R and PMW-EX3 firmware upgrade

You can easily damage firmware on your Sony XDCAM EX1 - EX1R camera during firmware upgrade due to software malfunction, power failure, user intervention or if proper handling procedures are not followed. Repair of the camera might require an expensive main board replacement . PMW-EX1 V1.25 or above software versions must be upgraded in the specific order.

In case of a lens failure on PMW-EX1 camera, we do not automatically replace the lens (replacement is expensive) lenses are repairable with appropriate tools, software and parts.

Self Diagnosis Error Codes

Before you send or bring the camera to us for a repair: Your camcorder has a self-diagnosis display function. This condition displays your camcorders condition as a five digit code (combination of letters, numbers and figures) on the LCD screen display windows or on the view finder. If the five digit code is displayed. Check the error code chart, the last two digits indicated by □□ will differ depending on the state of your camcorder. If you are experiencing following error codes on your Sony camera or deck, most likely your camera or deck hardware has failed and needs an immediate attention.     When an external device is connected, SDI output may become disabled on rare occasions, depending on:

    • Power supply status to the camcorder or external device, or
    • Connection status between the camcorder and external device.
    PRECAUTION

    Before turning ON power, confirm that a ground is established between the camcorder and external device as follows:

    1. Connect a 75 coaxial cable between the camcorder and external device.
    2. Turn ON power to the camcorder and external device.
